Why we celebrate

We honor Jesus’ love for humanity—His Sacred Heart symbolizes His mercy, compassion, and sacrificial love shown on the cross.

Since when

Devotion dates back to the early Church, but it was formally promoted in the 1600s through St. Margaret Mary Alacoque. The Church established it as a universal solemnity in 1856.

How to celebrate

• Attend Mass and receive Communion

• Pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart

• Consecrate your home or yourself to the Sacred Heart

• Spend time in Eucharistic Adoration

• Practice acts of mercy and forgiveness
