Month of the Precious Blood
Why We Celebrate
The Church honors the Blood Christ shed for our salvation. A reminder of His sacrifice, mercy, and the price of our redemption.
Since When?
The month-long devotion became widespread in the 19th century. In 1849, Pope Pius IX established a Feast of the Precious Blood, and later Pope John XXIII strongly promoted devotion to the Precious Blood. Although the separate feast was removed from the General Roman Calendar in 1969, the devotion to the Precious Blood remains a cherished Catholic tradition.
